Cherry blossom (or sakura) season is a huge event in Japan, but here it’s growing in popularity to visit places specifically to see this brief season of floral beauty.
Cheery trees belong to the genus Prunus. They have serrated leaves, banded bark and the all-important flower clusters that come before the cherries form.
The varieties of cherry that produce the shows that people go to see are the ornamental varieties.
