Join highly sought-after speaker and Honorary Professor at the University of Winchester Ed Rochead and BAFTA award-winning broadcaster, TV presenter and historian Dan Snow for a night of remarkable journeys, bold exploration and unforgettable history.
Kicking off at 7pm on Tuesday 24 February at New Hall, Winchester College, Ed Rochead will open the night with his talk Going South: The Daring Journeys of Amy Johnson, an inspiring exploration of the life and legacy of pioneering aviator Amy Johnson, one of Britain’s most remarkable figures in aviation history. The audience will learn about Johnson’s record-breaking solo flight to Australia in 1930, her later journey to South Africa, and the obstacles she overcame in a male-dominated field. The talk also shines a light on her personal connections to Hampshire and how they shaped her career and character.
Following Ed’s talk, Dan Snow will take the stage at 8:30pm to present Searching for Endurance, a thrilling talk about his 2022 Antarctic expedition to uncover Ernest Shackleton’s long-lost ship. Join Dan as he recounts his journey across the treacherous ice of the Weddell sea and the historic moment when the Endurance shipwreck was discovered 3000 metres beneath the surface.Don’t miss this evening of daring and discovery – from the skies above Australia to the icy depths of Antarctica.
