Rob da Bank said: “This will be our fourth year returning to the beautiful green escape of Southampton Common and it’s been quite some ride putting together the Common People line up for 2018. Headlined by none other than Lily Allen and one of my favourite indie bands of all time James, the Saturday is a typically eclectic mash up of styles. Our Disco Day on the Sunday also promises to be super funky with The Jacksons bringing their disco and soul classics, but my personal highlight has to be Prince’s unbeatable backing band The New Power Generation coming over from the States for a one-off weekend with us. We couldn’t get Prince but we will have all the hits. Add in all the local Southampton bands and DJs and a real focus on family fun and entertainment and I promise you a magical May weekend awaits”.

Another fantastic Common People line-up was announced for 2017 with headliners Pete Tong and Sean Paul.

Common People curator Rob da Bank said: “Common People is all about having some proper moments together as friends and family. Our cast this year to make you dance, sing and generally lose your shizzle include none other than recent Number One album artist, Mr Pete Tong, a legend of the dance and Radio 1 for over quarter of a century now, and here with a rare outdoor performance of his orchestral wonder Ibiza Dance Classics. Also, stepping up is Sean Paul, a dancehall god with more bangers up his sleeve than a fireworks factory. Proving able support at both shows will be Groove Armada and loads more fantastic acts, so have a read, explore and see you in the fields my lovely Common People!”

Pete Tong said “Performing Ibiza Classics with the Heritage Orchestra and Jules Buckley is one of the most exciting things I’ve ever been involved with, from stepping on stage at The Royal Albert Hall for the R1 proms through to performing to a packed to the rafters 02 in London, it’s been a non-stop thrill.” This was their first festival appearance.

Discovering new music is what gets a man like da Bank out of bed in the morning so the festival team continued their long and illustrious partnership with The Joiners and presented Beans on Toast, Black Honey, Natives, Happy Accidents, Cassava, Fever, XOCKHA, Feeble Grandpa, Scarecrow Boat, Nakamarra, Gun Shy and Deltorers.
